Cotton Floral Handbag

Handbag

“How many more bags do you need to buy?” You never have to hear that question again if you can make one for yourself. It sounds intimidating but it is really easy. Once you make one bag I can bet you cannot stop. It is quite addictive because now you can make as many matching hand bags as there are dresses in your closet. Isn’t it cool?

Handbag full lengthThis tote bag is quite roomy with long handles and can be used as a cross-body bag. The bag has a contrasting front pocket with magnetic snap closure.

I found a very good YouTube video to get me started. I am sharing the link with you.

The bag shown in the picture is not exactly the same pattern but technique is the same and then I used different patterns to create different size , shape and looks. This handbag is made out of quilters cotton outer fabric and poly-cotton for lining. I used Pellon craft bond fusible interfacing to stiffen the fabric. If you do not have access to interfacing you can also use canvas type tough fabric or denim(Hints: cut up your old denim jacket/jeans or someone elses without telling them). They hold up well.

I added a front pocket and some inside pockets to customize my bags. One has zippered pocket and others open to hold pen, keys and cell phone.

Zipper Closure

Then to finish I added a top zipper closureof this size because I like it that way. Now a days I could hardly find a big tote bag which has zipper closure. But of course you can skip the part and use magnetic snap closure or even Velcro. If you are putting the Velcro or snap closure you have to do it in the lining before attaching the lining to the bag.

I really hope you try making one and you like the one I made.
